Dr. Marcelo Nicolela completed Medical School and his residency training in Ophthalmology at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he also went on to complete a PhD in Ophthalmology. He then completed a 2-year fellowship in Glaucoma at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.
In 1998, Dr. Nicolela joined the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotiam and in 2014 was appointed Department Head and Chief of the Ophthalmology Service of the Capital District and Health Authority. He has authored 12 book chapters and published over 80 peer-reviewed articles in ophthalmological journals.
His main areas of research include imaging in glaucoma, clinical/surgical outcomes in glaucoma, and ocular blood flow. Dr. Nicolela has delivered several national and international lectures and has served as Past President of the Canadian Glaucoma Society.
